Last Night's Action: Adequate Satisfaction?

-Mets 6, Braves 4: Pedro Martinez allowed four runs in the first inning but cruised afterwards, and the Mets' win over the Braves helped increase their already-large cushion in the NL East. For the fans who have waited so long for the Mets to overtake the Braves (the Amazin's have never beaten the Braves since they joined the NL East), this September will not be dramatic. Still, only the most fastidious fans will have a problem with the manner in which the Mets will likely take the crown.

-Yankees 6, Devil Rays 0: Chien Ming Wang threw a two-hit shutout as the Yankees opened their homestand with a win. His outing was no different than so many others. He threw strikes (two walks) but didn't strike out many opponents (one.) He kept the ball down (18 groundouts) and ate up innings (all nine). Wang's durability has helped the Yankeees, who need their bullpen for so many other starters (Wright, Jaret, et. al.)

-Cyclones 10, S.I. Yankees 6: Brooklyn rode a four-run sixth to a comeback win over the Baby Bombers in Staten Island.

what the hell? this is what Boorstein wrote in the may 24th edition of Gothamist: "Chien-Ming Wang's effort Monday shows his true identity: a pitcher who wins when his pitches are hit at fielders and is ineffective when they aren't. Without a high strikeout total, Wang's results are too dependent on luck" and now Boorste is on Wang's jock? This is why I hate sports writers.
