THEATER: Though some might balk at an outdoor performance in this muggy, thunderstormy weather, The Drilling CompaNY's version of As You Like It, the next installment of Shakespeare in the Park(ing) Lot (directed by Jesse Ontiveros), is bound to exude enough cool to counteract the waves of heat rising from the asphalt. It also helps if you show up with your own chair so you don't have to exert yourself in a scuffle to nab one of the limited number available there. - Mallory Jensen

Tonight through Saturday. 8pm, through August 12 // Municipal Parking Lot, corner of Ludlow and Broome // Free

ART: Shepard Fairey designs the street with everything from clothing to posters to viral propaganda. A big name in the street art scene, he now has a book coming out. Come celebrate it tonight at the launch and learn a little bit more about the past 17 years of his work.

6 to 9pm // The New Museum of Contempory Art [556 West 22nd] // Free

PARTY: Kostume Kult's Sankktuary is having another crazy party tonight! (flyer here). The fundraiser will help Kostume Kult bring a ton of costumes to the Desert for Burning Man. The event will be part happy hour, part costume vending & creation and part dance party. No costumes required at this one, but style is always encouraged. In addition, costumes will be for sale at the event, so you may end up wearing one out even if you didn't wear one in.

8pm to 1am // Boulevard [199 Bowery (at Spring Street)] // $5 Beer/Vodka drinks, $7 Martinis til midnight ($5 cover)

ANOTHER PARTY: You've seen the posters hanging on mailboxes and lamposts around the LES this week...tonight NOUVEAU! is happening at Fat Baby. Open vodka bar from 10 to 11 and a free jello shot with every drink. Just try to keep it down after 2am, we live awfully close to that bar.

10pm // Fat Baby 112 Rivington Street [between Ludlow and Essex] // $5 or rsvp to rsvp@nouveaunyc.com

MUSIC: When we think of rock, we think of The Hold Steady. Well, at least they're in our top five things that come to mind when we think of rock. So it will be interesting to see what they can do tonight at Castle Clinton...unplugged! Yes, an all acoustic performance, a more gentle rock, if you will.

7pm // Castle Clinton [Broadway and State Street] // Free

Don't forget to stop by ABC No Rio to support Daniel McGowan tonight as well.

Outside of the NYC-centric reviewers who constantly name-drop The Hold Steady, does anybody really care about them? They are not that amazing on any level.

i am really with you Jack

i do NOT get this band.
they sound so pedestrian

I really wanted to like The Hold Steady, as being a fan of Lifter/Puller, but I just can't get into them now...i hate to say it, but it is overrated.

i saw them earlier this year... and kept waiting for him to do something other than talk over music. And then my friend and I had to leave.
