Last Night's Action: Yanks Get Just Enough Offense

2006_04_syankeeslogo.jpg-Yankees 7 Rangers 4: It was an unusual night in Texas. The Yankees managed only four hits, but still won the game thanks to some wildness on the part of the Rangers’ pitchers. In the fourth inning, New York scored three runs thanks to three walks, a hit batter and a single that could have been ruled an error. In the fifth they added three more runs thanks to Aaron Guiel’s home run.

Mike Mussina got his twelfth win of the year and Scott Proctor and Mariano Rivera combined to get the last nine outs of the game.

-Cubs 8 Mets 6: Chicago came into this series 23-games under .500, but they now have a chance to sweep New York on Wednesday. Tom Glavine was awful giving up eight runs, three of which were unearned because of his own throwing error and a home run to the pitcher. Despite the bad pitching, the Mets mounted a rally in the ninth, loading the bases before Bob Howry came in and got Paul LoDuca to pop out to end the game.

-Staten Island 4 Batavia 1: The Baby Bombers only allowed two hits in their victory.

-Brooklyn 4 Mahoning Valley 1: The Cyclones won their first game this year where their opponents had scored first.
