Tell eater.com that the first Arby's in Manhattan was actually in Greenwich Village (at 6th Avenue and West 4th Street I believe), and was closed only recently.
If it wasn't the first, it certainly pre-dated the one in Midtown.
in fact it is not the first arby's in nyc. for a while there was an arby's on 6th ave, right next to sammy's noodles at the corner of carmine street. it closed a couple of years ago and i forget what's in the space now, but i distinctly remember using their (stank) bathrooms back in high school.
It turned into a Wendy's about 3.5 years ago. The Wendy's is now closed. Space is vacant.
Sorry about the confusion on the Arby's article. I actually sent the tip to Eater without looking into historical Arby's locations. Rather than the first Arby's in Manhattan, it should have been noted as the RETURN of Arby's to Manhattan. Thanks for catching that one Mr. Frey...

Village wasn't first Arby's in the city. Arby's in NYC goes back to at least the '80s. There was even one in the Times Square area.
