Judge Weinstein overturned the conviction of the Mafia cops finding that the statute of limitations had run for the crimes they were accused of committing--meaning that they can no longer be tried because of the passage of time. That is very different than being acquitted of the crimes they were accused of committing--meaning a jury could not find beyond a reasonable doubt that they committed those crimes.
