The folks who are opposed to this park don't reflect the views of the majority of the neighborhoods surrounding the park. And don't misunderstand - they aren't opposed to *this*park they are opposed to any park. If they were well-meaning critics trying to effect positive change, they wouldn't be suing to stop the entire thing in its tracks.

No, these are sour-pussed NIMBYists who would prefer that the waterfront remain an industrial wasteland, so Brooklynites from other parts of the borough won't come traipsing through their virtual gated community to enjoy the park. As for protecting their views - their views of what? Abandoned sheds? Collapsing piers? Temporary cocoa storage tents? Give me a break. Every great park in NYC is surrounded by dense housing - it's the parks that AREN'T surrounded by housing that suck.

The nimbys crying that their park will have strangers living in a measly 10-20% of it should realize that right now they have 100% of an industrial shipyard now.

More likely its just selfish rich people not wanting their views blocked.

The Parks Department is not flush with cash. The City doesn't give it any money.

NYC is flush with cash,
can afford paying to maintain the parks out of tax revenues,
needs affordable low and moderate income housing, not boondoggles for billionaires.
