The MTA should give full time college students a discount like NJ transit does. :-/

1. I recall reading that the original IRT had some sort of ventalation system, but it was removed when the original subway entrances (a replica can be seen at Astor Place) were deemed "old fashioned" and taken away despite the fact they were a critical part of the ventalation system.

2. Doesn't everyone have the subway map committed to memory?

3. I hope we can get an answer to the question how many bags of groceries can you get in the head of the MTA head's fancy Italian sports car.

seconded on the maps.

it's also pretty ridiculous that most subway platforms don't have maps on the platforms (past the turnstiles).

likewise, every train and platform should also have the list of stops that the specific train is making. Being somewhat new to the city, I can't tell you how unnerving this can be.

I also can't believe how he just blew off the question about the heat in the stations. Increasing ventilation between the stations and the tunnels would be cheap, and would cool the stations quite a bit (think of that breeze that comes right when the train arrives)

Oh yeah, and as for the Sabbath elevator, just because you don't press any buttons, doesn't mean you're not using electricity.

God sees everything, and (s)he wants you to haul your lazy carcass up the stairs.

Oh shoot! I wish I'd sent in a question to "transit chief" Peter Kalikow. I'd have asked them to print up a couple of extra maps to put in the subway cars, instead of just 2 (if you're lucky), at opposite ends of the car.

Y'know, like a NORMAL TRANSPORT SYSTEM WOULD HAVE.

William Safire is on vacation.

Really? I thought you'd have to kill him in order to get something like that printed in the Times.
