On Wednesday night in Hell's Kitchen, a man was killed by a bus after an SUV hit him. Frank Frias, a 44 year old man, had been crossing 10th Avenue at 51st Street when an SUV's driver side mirror hit him. Frias fell to the ground, and then a northbound New York Waterway bus hit him. The Post reports that people saw the SUV's driver get out of the car, look at Frias, and then leave, while the bus driver did get out. Police are looking for the SUV's driver.
And a woman was hit by a drunk (and high) driver in Flushing. The driver was found 10 blocks away - his windshield was cracked - and admitted he had been smoking pot. The Daily News says the 19 year old woman "is expected to survive her massive head injuries."

Good thing the city is trying to rein in bikes.
So sad...
Too many car accidents made me feel sad.
MORE CARS! MORE CARS! MORE CARS!
Seldom a week goes by when some prick (SUV or otherwise) wants to shave 1/10th of a second off the time it takes to make a turn through a stream of crossing pedestrians by driving their hard, indestructible metal boxes way too close to or soft, easily damaged bodies. (Anything less than a foot, at speed, is TOO CLOSE).
My solution? Kick their precious hunks of junk as hard as you can. They normally care more about their cars than they do about the people whose lives they endanger.
Hitting somebody while driving recklessly is one thing. Confirming that the person's been hurt and fucking taking off is another thing entirely.
If only the SUVs were bigger and more people drove them. Than there would be no room for anyone to do such stupid activities like walking.
a month or two back I was crossing with the light across 8th ave at 43rd. An Expedition reved up and jerked forward right in front of me, obviously trying to bully through the crosswalk (very full of people, btw.) I stuck my tounge out at the driver, who leaned out and said these words:
"You get the fuck out of my way, that's why I bought this truck! You don't know what you're messing with!"
God bless America.
Don't forget:
SUV = WAR
As if getting run over by a Prius is going to hurt less.
Time to go medieval.
fill your supersoakers and toy water guns with urine, clorox, drain cleaner etc.
Use when needed.
and, nyc full of haters, you obviously didn't see the new Hummer ad, when they used machoism as thier tag line. (and, to fight back by buying a Hummer)
It's a fact: SUV owners have tiny peckers. OH, sooooooooo tiny.
It could have been a hybrid SUV
Bad news for those (like me) who think it is fair to strike passing cars that come close to killing you. If you get arrested, the DA has the discretion to charge you with car stripping (yes, car stripping), a FELONY. I don't know if there are other options, but, asking my brother in law former Legal Aid attorney what the repercussion were if I damaged a passing car (say, a misdemeanor or ticket), and that's what he told me.
So, to recap: car runs down a pedestrian, ticket rarely issued (this can be confirmed by TA). You try to educate a driver on the dangers of their potentially murderous ways? Felony, for you. That, my pedestrian friends, is justice.
(sigh)
So, to recap, SUV's are Evil but Big Sedans with identical mileage are ok, Right?
IMO, People should go after UPS, FedEx, NYC Buses, Diesel powered Trucks, etc. They don't vote and they contribute a lot more to pollution than SUV's do.
While those vehicles could be better operated and maintained, they at least provide services. The SUV is just taking up valuable space and fouling the air - the occupants can come into town via public transport.
Drewo, that's true, All Cars take up Valuable space, foul the air and the Occupants can take the Bus and/or Subway train.
Oddly enough most SUV's have a similar footprint to a sedan and have nearly the same gas millage. So, why are SUV owners Warmongers, Have tiny peckers, but A Lincoln Town car owner is OK?
Nuts...
