Last Night's Action: Not Worth the Wait

2006_04_syankeeslogo.jpg-Mariners 3, Yankees 2: After Melky Cabrera's game-winning home run Tuesday, fans didn't have long between games. Maybe the Yankees could have used more rest. Mariners starter Gil Meche allowed only five hits, and Alex Rodriguez had two of them. With the Red Sox cashing in their "Free Sweep" coupon over the lowly Royals, the Yankees are now 1 1/2 games behind.
-Reds 7, Mets 4: A rain delay of over two hours only put off the Mets' loss, and like the Yankees on Wednesday, the Mets will have a short turnaround before a day game Thursday. Steve Trachsel couldn't hold a 4-0 lead, and he lasted only 3 1/3 innings including the delay. WIth the Mets large cushion in the NL East, they could play .500 ball and still cruise into the postseason. Given their recent performance and careful treatment of their pitching staff, that may happen.
-Oneonta 6, Brooklyn 0: Although the Cyclones have played better of late, their anemic offense got only three hits in the shutout.
-Williamsport 3, Staten Island 1: The other Yankees took a 1-0 lead in the first, but they would be held scoreless the rest of the way.

I belive it will take more than .500 ball. The Braves are coming on and they have no fear of the Mets. Let's see if this is finally the year the Mets can handle them when it counts...a Braves series looms at the end of the month.
