Two teenagers were arrested in connection to 11 year old Genesis Regalado's death on a Queens street Monday night. Genesis had been playing at a fire hydrant across from her house with other people when Jeffrey Matista allegedly fired at another teenager but shot Genesis in the head. The Post says a gang war over turf prompted the shooting - the 99th Street Gang versus the Calloway Street Boys. The Daily News says Matista and members of a rival gang had argued at a Chinese restaurant, and when the rival gang members sat near the fire hydrant to eat, Matista opened fire. Illoy Espinal, who had argued with Matista, told the Daily News the spat was "over something stupid. They was just grilling us and talking s--t. When someone's grilling you, you tell them, 'What the f--k you looking at?' We told them, 'You want to do this, do it like a man. Do it one and one.' I didn't pay attention to them. They were 15- and 16-year-old kids."
Matista had flown to the Dominican Republic, but the Dominican police returned him to New York. His getaway driver, Joey Diaz, was also taken in for questioning. Genesis, who died in her brother's arms, was going to start the seventh grade this fall.

What kind of animals are people? What sane person honestly thinks about shooting someone in the middle of the street over an argument in a chinese food restaurant? How do these people even function in society? I'm honestly dumbfounded. This poor little girl is dead and her brother is no doubt traumatized because some idiot decided to do something stupid. Am I naive to think that people should be smarter than this?
Well now they are going to "do it like a man" as they are sure to be tried as adults...

Solution-break up the gangs-by moving them to different schools, Juvie, Jail or expelling them to their parent(s).

Guns suck. Period. Get rid of the guns, crimes like this won't happen as much.
Seriously, screw an amendment to our constitution regarding marriage being solely between a man and a woman, seriously, how many innocent people die because two people of the same sex want to marry? If the senate wants to waste precious time amending the constitution, do something about that "right to bear arms" bit.

Just as I figured, all the internet vigilantes didn't have the guts to go there unless they're in their car with the engine running.
"Get rid of the guns" is like saying "get rid of the heroin and crack" -- nice idea, but it ain't gonna happen.
The vast majority of crimes are committed with illegal weapons. To legally have a handgun in NYC you have to present an EXTREMELY compelling case to the police department as to why you need one -- you can't just say "because I'm a skinny white guy living in Bed-Stuy."
All that said, something definitely should be done about those dealers down south selling trunk loads to straw purchasers from NYC, which the city is trying to do.
TAKE BACK THE COMMUNITIES!!!!!

No truants.
No dead beat dads or moms.
No pedafiles/go live somewhere else.

Get them out of your neighborhood and things will change.
If the people would join together and speak up in advance, this would not be happening.
This is no different then the drive by over a recent holiday when a little toddler was shot to death in the mini van.
People who want to live a life with their families in peace have to step up to the plate. Form a hudge neighborhood watch. The neighborhood watch has to include half the occupants of every building in your neighborhood. The neighborhood watch should be there to make sure the community remains healthy. Look at the new families and old families living around you. The neighborhood should control its members.

My first thought yesterday when the story was posted here was that it was something gang-related. That whole "splashed water on an Altima" excuse didn't, uh, wash. But I suspected if I wrote that, somebody would start a flame war with "Gangs! Why do you people always bring up gangs just because there's gunplay in a poor neighborhood?" Because it usually is?
Where are all the NRA nuts now? Tell us this wouldn't have happened if everybody in that crowd had guns. Yup, this idiot wouldn't have opened fire if he thought the other people would shoot back. Oh, wait, the other gang members probably did have guns. We should still turn New York City into Dodge City, right? Maybe if we had appropriate punishment for people who are caught with illegal guns, like surgical amputation of the trigger finger, or better yet, the thumb. Try shooting without a thumb. Assuming you can put enough pressure on the trigger to fire, the gun comes flying back into your face due to recoil.
Kids in this country are getting dumber and dumber with each generation and more and more violent. I wonder, just wonder what our country will look like in 50 years assuming that guns are still around and illegal ones aren't kept off the street.
