10th Anniversary of TWA Flight 800

2006_07_f8003.jpgOn the tenth anniversary of TWA Flight 800 families, friends and officials gathered to dedicate the last piece of the memorial. Two hundred thirty people died on the flight from JFK to Paris, and Newsday (which has an excellent section on the 10th anniversary) describes the final piece as an "abstract rendering of a lighthouse" made of black granite "that looks out over the Atlantic is intended to serve as a metaphorical beacon." The rest of the memorial, which includes a granite wall with victims names and benches, was dedicated in 2002.

Kyle Gustafson has a set of photographs from yesterday's 10th anniversary ceremony on Flickr. And there are still questions about what happened to Flight 800, with people hypothesizing it could have been a terrorist bomb or a missile strike.

What's the deal with the shirtless moron in the reflection? Show some respect and put some clothes on!

If it were a terrorist strike don't you think some group would have taken credit for it? And CNN ran a documentary over the weekend that did a good job at poking holes in the missile theory.
