Last Night’s Action- The Windy City Gets Wiped Out

2006_04_smetslogo.jpg-Mets 13 Cubs 7: New York fell behind 5-0, not a problem when you hit not one, but two grand slams in a single inning. The Mets erupted for eleven runs in the sixth thanks to home runs from Cliff Floyd, Carlos Beltran and David Wright plus two errors by Todd Walker.

The offensive fireworks allowed the Mets to overcome a horrible start by El Duque and showcased a brilliant performance by their bullpen. While Hernandez was putrid ( 1 2/3 IP 7 Hits, 5 Runs) the bullpen was dominant ( 7 1/3 IP, 8 Hits, 2 Runs, 8 Strikeouts). The win keeps the Mets 12-games in front of the suddenly resurgent Braves.

-Yankees 6 White Sox 4: The next time you want to boo A-Rod, remember this game. Rodriguez turned two great defensive plays to bail out Jaret Wright in the top of the first and then hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning to put New York in front 3-1. Mariano Rivera came on with two runners on in the eighth to shut down Chicago and earn the 400th save of his career.

-Brooklyn 5 Vermont 4: The Cyclones scored a run in the ninth to keep their winning streak alive

-State College 6 Staten Island 4: The Baby Bombers gave up 14 hits in the loss

-Durham 3 Columbus 0: Crash Davis would be proud as the Bulls no-hit the AAA Yankees.
