Nick Minucci, who was on trial for beating a black man in Howard Beach, was sentenced to 15 years in prison. The Queens DA had charged Minucci with a hate crime when he repeatedly hit Glenn Moore with a baseball bat in June 2005, given Minucci's use of the "n-word," which sparked a discussion of what's in a word when jurors were selected. Minucci continued to deny racism motivated his actions, telling the court after being sentenced:
"I accept responsibility for my actions 100 percent. This had nothing to do with race. This had to do with me going to defend a friend. This was a hate crime because of Howard Beach."This December will mark the 20th anniversary of an infamous attack on three black men by a white gang in Howard Beach; one of the men was chased in the street and killed by a car.
Minucci could have faced 25 years in jail; he had previously beaten up a Sikh man after September 11. The Daily News said that Moore's stepfather and Moore would ask the judge for leniency during sentencing. However, Moore has filed a civil suit against Minucci, which apparently was prompted by Minucci's mother's questionable words about the Queens DA's black husband and "half-and-half" children. This guy and his family are idiots, but the double standard when it comes to interracial crime is significant. The overwheliming majority of interracial crime involves White victims and Black or Hispanic suspects, yet very few of these crimes are classified as "hate crimes." The opposite is assumed when a crime features a White suspect and a minority victim. Also keep in mind that in both of these infamous Howard Beach "hate crimes," the White suspects were fighting back against people who had threatened or tried to rob them.

It's a shame that there is a double standard and a higher expectation for people who are statistically less inclined to commit violent crime. I am ashamed that the four in Harlem were not similarly charged for espousing racial epithets to the NYU student before forcing him to choose between being beaten and killed or run over.

White people have been labling everything over the years. You should send a letter to your congressman or District Attorney and ask why? Why are "interracial" crimes not called "hate crimes." Why is that blacks that have been prosecuted were not prosecuted for the same title, HATE CRIME.
You should get a real involved intellecutal argument and answer.
Use the good sense God gave yah. You can break down the labels all you want. CRIME is CRIME. HELLO. Blacks are doing time for many far more smaller offenses. So don't feel so bad. Things are still "even." Don't worry.

In 15 years, he'll be out of prison and even more angry and racist. No matter how deserving he really is of this sentence, where our rehabilitation system is concerned, he's just going to come out meaner. Thinner, probably stronger, and a whole lot meaner. Plus, he'll have an entirely new group of racist thugs to troll around with.
Either way you look at this you lose.
