  • When rents are lowered to affordable levels in NYC, cops (rookie cops start at $25,000) can be forced to live in the five boroughs. Till then they should live wherever they can afford.

    Waiving the residency rule also is an admission there's not nearly enough affordable housing for DC 37 members.

    That pretty much says it all. Many city workers (cops, firemen, teachers, some other office folk) already had this rule waived. Teachers and some office workers can even live out of state.
