A forum post from a crobar employee on clubplanet.com:

Apparently, Last night at crobar, a womans cell phone gun accidentally went off in her pocket, luckily nobody was seriously injured. We at crobar take this situation very seriously. As our staff does the best we can to keep the facility safe, we are always looking after the protection, comfort and wellbeing of our patrons.
Thank you,

crobar management
We look forward to seeing you on the dance floor tonight, celebrating Bastille Day with Johnny Dynell, Ivano Bellini and a special event with Nico & Adrian with performances by Amanda Lepore and Supermodel, Laurent Caillat.

And since I was interested in wtf a cell phone gun is.. i came across this link:

FYI: there is going to be a cabaret law protest on July 22 at the corner of 79th and 5th, near Bloomberg's house. They hope to have a good number of people come out to protest the cabaret laws.

It's funny how the cabaret laws target places without the license, since it seems that this spate of violence is occuring in places with cabaret licenses.

"Thursday nights are Hip Hop nights at Crobar. The remainder of the weekend consists of house music."

I know that people who like to knit listen to hip hop. I didn't think the club would be so full of knitters on thursdays.

I wouldn't know if the drug problems at straight venues are any better than they are at gay venues. At least at gay venues we don't have idiot starlets making numerous "trips to the bathroom" and getting published on Page 6 and every blog in town. Like I said - target straight people. They are obviously the bigger problem.

"I would like to point out there is never violence at the gay clubs around town and yet THEY are the ones who are targeted by police."

That’s not true. Remember that last batch of club shutdowns by the police? Most, if not all of them were regular clubs. Violence is not the main reason they go after these clubs, it’s the drugs. Now you can’t tell me gay clubs have fewer drug problems then regular clubs (Though I don’t know for sure since I don’t frequent them).

Where Crobar is concerned, their security was always somewhat lax. The last few times I was there they didn’t even pat me down. Its somewhat easy to sneak a weapon inside.

Draw what you want from that bit of information.

I would like to point out there is never violence at the gay clubs around town and yet THEY are the ones who are targeted by police. I have never seen an incident of violence at any gay bar or club I have ever been to no matter how crowded it has been. The only time I have ever seen violence break out at a club I have been to is when the crowd was mixed gay and straight - and it's always the straight guys having fist fights with each other. Even at the Madonna concert i was at last week a fight broke out in the lobby and it turned out to be two straight GIRLS. Gay people just go out to have a good time and are targeted and have our gathering places shut down. Straight people apparently go out to strut and show off and be territorial which often leads to stupidity and violence. Maybe someone should target THEM for a change.
