Entourage in the Burg

We just came across a video that's a part of the T-Bird Show (which appears to be a lot of, "What is the deal with Hipsters?") The host ran into Adrian Grenier on the street in Williamsburg and gave him a little impromptu interview, which you can watch above.

Best quote from Grenier on how Williamsburg differs from Hollywood, "...no manicured lawns, things are a bit more grimey, a little more real. I was in Williamsburg before Williamsburg was Williamsburg. Yes, I was an innovator."

Grenier is spotted around town a good amount. Last year we actually had to become part of his "real life entourage" as part of a work assignment and we were happy to report how sweet and down to earth (or if you prefer: "grimey and real") he was - way more Brooklyn than Beverly Hills. On that note, we think Grenier should make a guest appearance on The Burg. Someone make it happen.

Does anyone care that this guy is in Williamsburg? "...no manicured lawns, things are a bit more grimey, a little more real. I was in Williamsburg before Williamsburg was Williamsburg. Yes, I was an innovator."

"We" think he's a douche.

haw haw. How is Williamsburg "real", anyway? The only people I've *ever* met there live in these $1,200 lofts and have absolutely no real job. A few weeks ago I was sitting in a cafe in Williamsburg and overheard these totally old women talk about 1) The latest sale at Barneys 2) How many millions their house sold for in San Francisco.

I mean, that doesn't make people bad or anything, but c'mon, Williamsburg hasn't been "real" since what, the early 90s?

If by "real" he means starving artists and immigrants, hahaha? is right... that whole thing ended by the mid-90s, i believe...

theburg.tv should go away... and people sitting around doing nothing with their massively expensive lofts, is what williamsburg and hipsters are all about. it's real as it ever was.

If T-bird sustains eye contact with the person he is talking to for more than 3 seconds his head will explode and children everywhere will rejoice.

That was stupid. Every short on this site or Gawker about Williamsburg is so awful. You people should really stop. Without these videos, there might be an air of mystery about Williamsburg (for those who dont go to bklyn), and people might actually think it's cool. These videos on the internet let everyone know the contrary is true.

Less is more.

hey, this is in the totally shitty party of williamsburg, good luck finding ladies of leisure takling about barney's sales here. and i know this cuz its around the corner from me.

Grenier is the man! You hipsters should be happy that he's giving Williamsburg some serious cred.

not everyone in williamsburg is a trust fund schwoop-haired hipster in a loft. i live there (closer to east williamsburg) and pay a normal rent to live in a normal but slightly larger than manhattan walk up. and i'm not loaded; i make an average salary for someone just out of college. i like williamsburg because most of the people *i've* met are friendly, creative and down-to-earth. and you can see sky a hell of a lot more than in most of manhattan. i like seeing the city skyline occasionally pop out above the buildings amidst the grimy-yet-cute environment. i like the cheap but great food and divey bars.

don't judge williamsburg solely on bedford avenue. if that's all you've seen, i'd suggest digging a little deeper. yes, there are some pretentious-as-hell spots that i'd do my best to avoid (aren't there more of those in the city?). but for each of those there are twice as many chill and cheap places that rival the coolest spots in manhattan, brooklyn and queens. i've lived in all three of those burroughs and prefer where i live now. if you're not willing to give williamsburg a chance, then you might be just as annoying as those rich ladies blabbing about barney's. either that, or williamsburg just isn't for you. get over it.

everytime williamsbug comes up on this site there's 15 posts about how its all trust fund kids living in huge lofts. am i missing something. i see some of these douches but they're far from the majority. most of my friends live in williamsburg (granted they don't live on bedford or in any of the new "luxury condos) or greenpoint and last i checked they all worked real jobs and didn't have a shit load of money. but living in williamsburg/greenpoint gives you more space than manhattan without being stuck way the fuck out in brooklyn. someone hook me up with some trust fund friends who can start paying my way, please.

Williamsburg is merely okay. It has a charm similar to visiting another city. It just doesn't feel like New York. It's hard for a place to feel like New York when 80% of its residents just moved there a year ago from somewhere far, far away, yet claim they have a grip on New York. No other neighborhood in the five boroughs has that type of statistic. This is exactly why Williamsburg is a punching bag as well as a punchline. Even the Lower East Side and DUMBO don't suffer from the sheer density of clueless people who don't even have a New York area code on their cell phones.

Williamsburg started sucking the minute my boy Vince left.

What doesn't make sense is that, if you're going to pay a normal rent and be close to Manhattan, why not move somewhere that's closer, cheaper, nicer, and better developed?

That's the question about Williamsburg: if you can't afford the luxury housing, why pay the same rent to live in a really disgusting part of NYC when you can pay the same to live in a place with trees, cobblestone streets, and decades-worth of ammenities? (yes, affordable places in NYC close to Manhattan are like that, but ... alas, they don't have fashionable names that impress your friends!)

I personally enjoyed seeing Adrian in his real "environment"...he seems pretty cool and down to earth despite his recent success...
