EVENT: Even if the Freegans have a photo of a pale vegan going through the dumpster for food on the front page of their website, this is actually a really amazing group of people that we could all learn a lot from. Tonight, for example, they will teach you how to build bikes using abandoned parts found around the city. Tools and know-how supplied.

7pm // Bicycle Rescue & Repair [327 W. 36th St between 8th & 9th] // Free

Toby Young, known for his dishy New York magazine world expose How to Lose Friends and Alienate People, has dipped his cup back into the memoir world with The Sound of No Hands Clapping, about Hollywood this time. Catch him read from the book and celebrate its release at Housing Works Used Books Cafe, presented in cooperation with mediabistro.com. Expect lots of cattiness and hilarity. - Krissa Courbett Cavouras

THEATER: With a title like Orange Lemon Egg Canary for a magic show where the choices in the conjurer's hat include "cheap tricks, hurt feelings, and beguiling questions about sex, theatre, ghosts and the Two of Clubs," and when Rinne Groff is spinning the narrative web and the generously talented Steve Cuiffo is starring as a magician with a dangerous past who's taken on a lovely but perhaps too-inquisitive assistant...don't ask, just head to PS 122 for the opening tonight. - Mallory Jensen

Through July 30, Wednesday through Friday 8pm, Saturday 5 & 9pm, Sunday 5pm // 155 First Ave. // Tickets via Theatermania

MUSIC: Tonight at Mercury Lounge catch Goat Explosion, Office and Blood Meridian. We don't know about the latter two, but Goat Explosion was formerly Elkland (who just broke up, and, apparently, reformed as something all together new).
