Kids in the Hall

Brooklyn-ites likes their bocce almost as much as their lager, so when Park Slope's Union Hall opened last Sunday with a bocce arena--two elevated, lit courts--muffled cheers rose throughout the borough. Sister bar to Atlantic Avenue's Floyd, itself home to a lone bocce court and ongoing league, Union Hall is the more elegant older sister boasting floor-to-ceiling built-in (and fully-stocked) bookcases, portraits of erudite older gentlemen probably scrounged at flea markets, a double-sided stone hearth, and an impressively wallpaper'ed downstairs with a stage ready to host your band. With a dozen brews on tap and a handful more bottled, an eclectic menu including mini angus burgers with a trifecta of cheeses, fried blue cheese balls coated in apple-cinammon cheerios, and milk and homemade cookies for dessert, Union Hall is the bar you'll love for its charm before its beer. Get your bocce game on and excuse yourself from the office a little early. There's a new hall where the architects are in awe and the cool kids are kickin' back-- that's this one: Union Hall.

Union Hall is located at 702 Union Street (at 5th Ave.) in Park Slope, Brooklyn.

It sucks that Park Slope is now plagued with the bar problems of the Lower East Side/East Village! A bocce "arena" may be nice for the patrons, but what about the neighbors who deal with a bar (outside smokers, noise, etc...) on their residential block?! Frankly, it's disturbing and annoying. Bars go away and let us live in a peaceful neighborhood!

Really? Outside smokers from Union Hall are going to wreck the peace and quiet of 5th and Union? It's already the busiest intersection in the Slope. Two bus lines converge there and it's a path that connects the most desirable shopping sections of 5th and 7th avenues. I'm glad to see a bar with some creativity and personality open in the neighborhood.

Yeah, naysayers either don't live in the Slope or haven't been to Union Hall. It looks like a lot of care went into it and as a Sloper, I'm glad to have somewhere else to hang out. Great Lakes and Commonwealth are cool, but Union Hall opens early, and just feels right. And I'm not a fucking yuppie. Viva the new place!

I live in the Slope and am thrilled to have a bar that I can go with a group of friends nearby. The North Slope is actually fairly devoid of bars, so this is not a case of oh no another bar. Before this, it was between Snookys and the Santa Fe Grill. I say welcome Union Hall.

Yeah, does M know Park Slope at all? Union Hall seems like a terrific addition to the n. slope--and like another poster said, part of a busy commercial intersection with no upstairs tenants. V. well designed and I hope they do well here.

With the addition of the Black Sheep (on Bergen), the Cherry Tree just opening up (on 4th ave), and now Union Hall, I may never have to set foot in O'Connors again.

Hooray for good bars in North Slope.

To anyone complaining about the noise, I know a marching band and we'll gladly come play outside your window anytime....

As far as smoking goes, I am a non-smoker but do not complain about those that do smoke outside. It is not the smokers fault that Bloomberg passed a law that does not allow smoking indoors. Here is the option, no noise outside, smoker inside. You choose. BTW, Union and 8th is the busiest intersection in Park Slope, not Union and 5th. I am ecstatic that this place opened, 7th Avenue has barely any place to hang out and it has turned into baby heaven! I am tired of parnets that wander into stores such as Blue Apron - Mom, Dad, Baby, and carriage, why can't one parent shop and the other wait outside with the carriage! My bruised ankles can't take it anymore! Everyone needs to have a little edge, this is New York! If you want to bring your babies out to eat at 11:00 PM and do not want to be around drunk, lound folks using vulgar language...MOVE!

This place is horrible. The bartenders are so arrogant and rude. Why work in Brooklyn if you can't be nice? Don't go here!

Boah, really cool, i would visite this place...
