The Post blew its wad too early with yesterday's cover story, "NYPD JEW," ab out the city's first Hasid joining the Police Academy. Why? It turns out that Joel Witriol didn't have enough academic credits to be accepted. Naturally, the Daily News loves pointing that out, as well as the fact the NYPD has hired Orthodox Jews in the past (but were they Hasidic?). Anyway, the Post notes the credit snafu and has a quote from Witriol ("I don't want to blame anyone but myself and look forward to starting, whether with this class or the next one.") who didn't submit his transcript until last week. The Post still tries to find the silver lining and leads with a married couple joining the academy.
And mazel tov to our commenter D who thought that "Kosher Pig" was probably a rejected headline from yesterday's Post story. It's pretty classic.

Actually, the News article seemed pretty straight forward and free of glee.
No one has yet addressed whether or not he will be able to interact with women in all aspects of the job.
Or will he be in a NYPD uniform?
He may not interact with females if he works in 1PP after he graduates. Or at least minimize his dealings with females by working there.
That would be a real bummer if I needed CPR and he had to call for backup!
well in that case maybe there is an opening on the force in lancaster, pa or holmes county in ohio where he could go as he might be more comfortable and effective policing his fellow amish given all those restrictions.
Actually, an Orthodox Jew could, if trained, issue CPR on anyone. Most Talumudic scholars would interpret the idea of not touching to not outweigh the benefit of saving someone's life.
I issue CPR on whomever I please whether they need it or not.
