Go back to Ohio, Interlard!! How could you not think of the Port Authority when you look down the street and see the 10,000 humongous viaducts that cover 8th-11th ave down from 48th street? You're not next to them, but you're at least a 5 minute walk, or 10 minutes in pimp-walk time. If you watched Fox 5 you should've heard these people who complained - they had that untainted breathy, New England / Midwest accent and the vacant stare of a thin-blooded and world-inexperienced Vassar grad. Good times.

I used to live on 47th between 9th and 10th and it never felt like "near the Port Authority" or any of the other crap the know-nothing commentors above have said. My neighbors had kids and it never seemed like a bad place to bring 'em up. However, there was often a bunch of strange-acting skanky types hanging around the deli on the corner of 10th. I used to go in for Gatorade after a night out, and there was always something funny going on.

Listen, I don't blame anybody for not wanting their kids to be around the sex/drug trade. But this: "I don't want him growing up looking at that," she said. "It's a lot of money to be paying to have this activity going on."" is absolutely ridiculous. Move to the suburbs, for Christ's sake, if you can't handle the unseemly aspects of living in an urban environment. There's no shame in that - people do it all the time. You have the best museums, restaurants, career opportunities, etc., in New York, but all of that comes at the price of shared space.

Frankly, I like the hookers. They provide great services for competitive prices.
