I agree with you, David. I thought "Subconscious Art" was fascinating. I wrote a review about that brilliant short film on my blog. You can read it HERE. I go into some of the points brought up in the film regarding viewing art and the relationship between artist and viewer.

"The Subconscious Art of Graffitti Removal" Well worth seeing. This was included in the 2004 art exhibit "From Baja to Vancouver". I’m willing to wager that it is both funnier and more inspiring than "Art School Confidential".

Portland underground filmmaker Matt McCormick made a serious yet ironical documentary about this phenomenon -- "The Subconscious Art of Graffitti Removal" -- that played at Sundance about 4 years ago and is currently showing at the "Uncertain States of America" show at Bard College (NYT did a piece on Friday). Being as most graffiti vandals are young men... I think the city should give away stencils that say, "has a small penis" to all business owners.. and when their property is tagged, the business owner just applies the stencil over the tag. I think shame would eventually lead to less graffiti...

I like to wait for graffiti artists to grow up and realize that writing their names on walls is pointless. I used to do it...
