No One Will Hear Our Pleas

2006_07_08_liverats.jpg

When walking on Seventh Avenue just south of 14th Street, might we suggest avoiding leaning on the structure where "dozens of rats live." We hear they bite pets.

In the meantime, we're going to call this one into 311 (maybe we should write a letter to the Mayor for good measure?). Though if we remember our Rats: The Book correctly getting rid of one nest won't do much. There are millions of rats nests pretty much all over (and under) the city anyway...

Also, does anyone know what exactly those structures are called?

Don't kill those rats yet....I'm going to head over there, get bitten multiple times, then sue the city for thousands!! Heheheheh....

If you're sure "dozens of rats" are in there, pack in the rat poison. Follow by stuffing the openings in the bottom with steel wool.

Its obviously a high rise for rats!

On second thought, it doesn't look like a Wildebeest or a Pangolin. The top is wrong. Okay, Kevin, you missed a design on your page! Snap to it, mister! I want to see it updated now!

My goodness. And Gothamist calls itself a fan of Kevin Walsh's Forgotten NY site. A quick check there shows it's a Wildebeest. It'd be much too small for a useful subway vent. That's what the big sidewalk gratings are for.

    its a giant...

From the photos provided, I believe it to be an air intake for the subway system. That would also explain the rat problem. Though I could be wrong any one concur?
