- Neighbors say The Knitting Factory is dirty and loud: "My 10-year-old had to watch a girl pee!”
- Speaking of pee, are you familiar with the theory of urinal spacing?
- 250K bail for possibly innocent Greenpoint arsonist - looks like he's spending the rest of the summer in jail!
- The city considers the possibility of a citywide broadband network (but you can go blogging from Prospect Park by the end of August)...
- ...and the city has set aside $1.5 million for a hip-hop museum in the Bronx
- The NYC Transit museum turns 30 tomorrow and you can get in for just fifty cents.
- Here's a whole bucket of kittens. 'Nuff said
- And a reminder: if you're down in Coney Island tonight, the parachute jump is being lit at 9pm. Send pix to photos(at)gothamist(dot)com

Let's just shut down every club in the city that plays music. Good plan.

I'm not a strict adherent of formal urinal spacing, but I do rigorously uphold the no talking rule. Some co-workers think that it's an opportune time to talk business. I think it's a sign of passive aggression.

a hip hop museum?

i don't know...i don't think we actually
NEED a hip hop museum..granted it would
be nice..but truthfully..where is this
$$$ coming from..???

Considering the problem of public peeing, does anyone think it might be time for NYC to experiment with a few public toilets? Mayor Bloomberg, along with the previous, three mayors announced a toilet program, but, as in the past, its all potty-mouth but no potty.

"Free Broadband, free toilets, car-free bikelanes!" Not as stirring as "Peace Land & Bread," perhaps, but we need them all.

Oh please forgive someone for doing what comes naturally.
what is your daughter doing outside at midnight?
god forbid you don't have a toilet.
you city folks won't last a day without your spa and bottled water.
you're lucky the blackout only lasted 24hrs 2 years ago. I guarantee you, it won't be a party if it went longer than that.

The Knit actually does a pretty good job at trying to keep the noise problem down. I've seen on numerous occasions when they've asked people to keep it down. but when it's setbreak and half of the club goes outside for a smoke, what more can they do? We've already lost the Wetlands, Tribeca Rock Club, Tobacco Rd, Bottom Line and soon to be CBGBs. I was never a huge fan of the sweatbox Knit, but they book some great bands and I don't have to buy their tickets from Ticketbastard.

Honestly... do not raise your 10 year old in Lower Manhattan, or next to a famous venue fer chrissakes. I hear Park Slope is nice.

I can't believe that ridiculous guy was shocked, shocked that his ten year old had to see a woman peeing. If he's bringing up his kids in Manhattan he'd better condition them to seeing things like that. Not that people should be pissing all over the place. But what exactly is he trying to protect his ten year old from? The truth? I'm so tired of the Victorian idea of absolute innocence for children from birth until 18 years old.

Every time I go to the Knitting Factory I am told to smoke in the designated area, keep it down, etc. I think they do a pretty good job with all that.
One a side note, I grew up on the stuffiest part of the Upper East Side and there was a neighborhood homeless guy who used to take his shits in various windowed places (banks, post offices, whatnot). I remember walking by a bank and seeing him try to dump while people shooed him away. Didn't really bother me, kinda bothered my parents. Moral of the story is that people are going to do weird things, we all live in close proximity to one another in this city, your children aren't going to be fine, quit bitching you douchebag.
