Conan O'Brien gave the commencement speech to Stuyvesant High School students, and thank God for YouTube. To win over the crowd, he slams grandparents and Bronx Science right out of the gate and later he mentions that he researched Stuyvesant using Wikipedia. Gothamist hopes Stuyvesant Class of 2006 knows how lucky they were, as their commencement speakers are probably down hill from here. And certainly this is better PR for Stuyvesant than cuddle groups on the cover of New York magazine (we think!).
There are a couple videos of the speech on YouTube - the one above is the best angle. Conan's commencement speech to Harvard's Class of 2000 was pretty great, too, and he will be hosting the Emmy Awards later this summer (we found the nominations to be a total snoozefest, except for 24's President and First Lady who tore things up!).

Also, does anyone find it hilarious that the Wikipedia entry on Stuy breaks down the racial segregation of the building as well as glorifies stuynet as " the only online source of information and moral support for the distraught Stuyvesant community. " CRAZINESS.

Downhill? '04's speaker was Kofi Annan, and '02's speaker was Bill Clinton. If the quality of the speakers goes downhill, it's only for lack of better speakers in the world.
By downhill, I meant with graduations later in life. I can barely remember who did my college speeches - probably someone important but someone unmemorable.
