Wow, Some nut grabs a couple of saws and has himself a good time at the expense of this poor guy. Does surprise me at all, Why weren't these tools sucured? Well the next step would be for this guy to sue the contractors, as well as the MTA. The saga continues................

Larry is absolutely correct. There has never been any subway crime south of 86th street in manhattan. end of discussion. i use that 110th street station every week at all hours and have never felt threatened. even at 3am on a thursday the middle subway cars will likely have 10-20 people on them. there's a 24 hour station attendant on both sides, and the surrounding neighborhood is mostly professors and students, with plenty of police presence. until they tore down columbia bagels, there was guaranteed to be a cop car idling on the northeast corner of 110 and broadway at any given time after 10pm. Hardly a hotbed of violent crime. However, there is a halfway house somewhere down past amsterdam near 110, I believe. I wonder if the suspect they have in custody was connected to that place.

I'm glad to see that cordless reciprocating saws are just lying around the subway station at 3:30am! Makes me feel safer all the time.

[16] Short memories Larry? The guy from Boston (the last high profile subway attack) who started attacking people at the 110th street C stop finished his run down in Times Square. And I believe the infamous tourist attack about 10 years ago was relatively midtown as well.

what Todd said. i have used that station at all hours for years w/o incident. sh*t like this can happen anywhere - someone who needs meds and care doesn't get it, finds a broken chainsaw and finds someone to use it on.

Suicidal? 110th and Broadway is the south end of Morningside Heights. Its a university neighborhood (Columbia), and is generally very safe.

Dewalt is some good quality. Thanks to the 18v Lithium battery, those saws are light enough for use with one hand, leaving the other hand free so you can carve into two dudes at once.

i cant wait for mayor mike to outlaw electric chainsaws. god knows they're as dangerous as guns and even easier to buy. maybe not easier to buy in parts of washington heights but in chelsea for sure.
