A fond memory from San Juan, Puerto Rico, was asking the first local outside the hotel what he would drink; he pointed me to Ron del Barrilito. So good I still remember it, even though I haven't had it for years. Good choice gothamist.

the rhum barbancourt three star is the best, much better than the higher end version.

btw this also holds true for herradura tequila, where thye resposado is better than the anjeo.

this is the fun of doing your own tastings, it's not always true that the higher end version is best.

Very well written piece. And the Brandy Library is the perfect place to do this sort of research (as if the name weren't enough of a tip-off) without angering the locals.
