Last Night's Action: Yanks Roll

2006_04_syankeeslogo.jpg-Yankees 16 Mets 7: You can cross “A-Rod never gets a big hit against the Mets” off your list of reasons to boo him. Sunday night A-Rod delivered two huge hits, a grand slam and a three-run homer as the Yankees drew a split in the Subway Series.

The Mets jumped out to an early 4-0 lead when Jaret Wright couldn’t get anyone out, surrendering seven hits and a walk in 1 2/3 innings. Joe Torre made the gutsy move to bring Ron Villone into the game, even though it would mean patching together six-plus innings from the bullpen, and it worked. Villone gave the Yankees three solid innings and when he finally gave up a run; it was with a 13-4 lead.

-Brooklyn 3 Hudson Valley 0: The Cyclones won their first series of the year and took home their third victory.

-Aberdeen 8 Staten Island 3: The Baby Bombers fell below .500 with the loss.
