Broken Social Scene Play The Hook

Last night we made our way to Red Hook for the Tag Team anniversary party. Can't really beat a night at The Hook, free food AND ice cream, full open bar and live music. Especially when the live music is provided by Broken Social Scene.

The band played an amazing (and long!) set to a fairly unpacked (but incredibley enthused) room. Amy Millan provided the female vocals, and later played a song or two of her own. Towards the end of the night they brought up Andrew Kenny from American Analog Set, who played a song with the band and then asked if this meant he was "officially Canadian".

Broken Social Scene plays Prospect Park on July 6th with The Hidden Cameras. Tickets on sale here, the proceeds go to benefit Celebrate Brooklyn.

well, sean, let me know if you want to come to our monday night dance party - but it probs won't make the society pages (or this one).

ahh screw it, how to i get invited to this stuff?

I was there and I had a blast. The chicken skewers were terrible, but those veggie dog rolls were awesome. Managed to steal a poster on my way out, too.

  • It's no different than the society pages, really. But I sorta agree... why write about something that wasn't open to the public?

That said... I was there and it was a good time. The pulled pork was good, but those chicken skewers were crap. It was kind of funny watching BSS while two dudes beside me ate giant pieces of watermelon.

Your pshaw makes your point exactly. Seriously I've benefited from friends before as well, but is it really any different from velvet rope marquee crap?

  • Pseudo elitist? Pshaw. You just need friends in the right places. I loved the mini pulled pork sandwiches! yummy! and watermelon?!whoa! I just wished I'd nabbed a poster before they were all gone.

I love ya gothamist, but I hate it when blogs like yours post this psuedo elitist "stuff". You guys didn't plug this in the music section, so don't be surprised no one was there. If blogs and the whole indie scene are supposed to be the democratic open thing, then let us regular folks know when these awesome shows take place. Maybe I'm off base, but how is this any different than a celebrity bragging about some private show with Jay-Z.
