Jen, thanks for clearing that up. I know Pianos has recently taken to the annoying habit of catering to the fashionably late by advertising all shows a half hour earlier than the time posted on the door, and then often running later than the posted time even. It's sad that they didn't even let one of the organizers in on the deal. I still like the club, but that night and setup was just a huge pain in the ass.

The comedy was definitely worth the wait and I look forward to LH 3.0, but probably somewhere else would be better. Please keep doing these, we don't want to go to regular comedy clubs or tourist traps like Caroline's! I saw Todd Barry open for Janeane Garofolo at Northsix and it was great.

hi anonymous venter,

the show WAS supposed to start at 9, when i got to the venue at 8 i saw the sign that said 9:30 as well. in addition, i think the bands the venue had booked went over the time they expected. it happens.

i'm sorry you all had to wait and that it got sort of confusing (the numbering system was the venues way of keeping things organized).

hope the comedy made up for the wait!

Great show absolutely. Mulaney irritated me at first but eventually got me chuckling, Mirman built on that with some low-key stuff, Aziz kicked it into high gear with his energy and long but fascinating R. Kelly story, and Todd Barry brought it on home with his "Medium Energy". Could not stop laughing at him.

But why did a bunch of us leave after Barry? Maybe because the time leading up to the show was so frustrating and late. It was advertised as 8 pm doors, 9 pm show. We get there at 9 and the showtime is actually listed as 9:30, with two music acts on first as part of a different show. We're handed postcards with numbers scrawled on them and told that numbers would be called out to let us in. Eventually the news that the waiting was supposed to be outside gets out. This leaves some people confusedly asking each other what number they have and others just getting in line in the order they got there. Then we all wait for an eternity on the street, only to be let in without anyone even checking what numbers we had. The room was set up half with folding chairs and half standing which allows for fewer people than all standing, and not as accomodating as all seated. Then we waited even longer before anything even started.

So yeah, the comedians were funny but the organization of the show was pretty bad. A lot of people on line outside seemed pretty annoyed. Don't know who's responsible for the logistics of doing things that way but I hope the next LH has a better setup.

Awesome anecdote about Todd Barry:

Agreed. The show was great before him, but Daniel really raised it to a whole new level. I'd never seen him before, but he was far and away my favorite part of the night. Great addition.

Daniel was an awesome addition and I'm glad I stuck around for him. Hats off to whomever made the call to put him in! I nearly died laughing.
