Last Night's Action: Rivals Defeat Locals

2006_04_smetslogo.jpg - Red Sox 9, Mets 4: The Mets had their chances against Jon Lester, loading the bases twice, but the rookie pitcher got out of the jams and the Red Sox won their 10th straight game. Alay Soler had his worst outing of the season, aided by a Lastings Milledge misplay of a fly ball into a two-run double in the fourth inning. The biggest scare for the Mets wasn't Big Papi or Manny Ramirez, but Jose Reyes bouncing off Jason Varitek's leg in the 5th inning. Luckily for the Mets, Reyes escaped without major injury. Tonight, Pedro Martinez returns to the mound in his first game against his former team.

- Braves 5, Yankees 2: Jared Wright deserved better, allowing only 1 run against the cellar dwelling Braves. Horacio Ramirez held the Yankees to only one run over 8, while the Yankee bullpen didn't help the team's cause, allowing 4 runs and putting the game completely out of reach. Kyle Farnsworth somehow managed give the Braves two runs to pad their lead in the 9th.

- Sting 73, Liberty 67: The Liberty get stung by the Charlotte Sting at home for their 10th loss of the season. Even worse for the Liberty - it was only Charlotte's 3rd win of the season.

- SI Yankees 5, Ironbirds 1: The Baby Bombers strike again. Rolando Japa won his 2nd game of the young season in 6 innings of work. His ERA so far is a miniscule 0.79.

- Renegades 13, Cyclones 7: The Cyclones are still looking for their first win of the season. It certainly wasn't happening last night against the McNamara Division leading Renegades.
