It isn't their money being donated. It's the public's money. And given the pathetic savings rate in this country perhaps the people would be better off keeping their money and having Boy George give $30,000 to charity. Ditto Clooney and his auctioning off his Oscar gift bag. Rather than keep $50,000 in undeserved swag (and paying income tax on it) he had other people buy the stuff and he got himself another 5 minutes in the spotlight.
