Driver's Seizure Seizes Up Midtown Sidewalk

2006_06_jetta.jpgThe driver of a Volkswagen Jetta seemed to have a seizure and drove into the sidewalk at Eighth Avenue and 46th Street yesterday afternoon. The car hit two pedstrians, throwing them into the air. The car only stopped when it hit a telephone booth - there's a rather grim picture on the NY Times site. The driver, his passenger, and the two pedestrians were taken to Bellevue for treatment; none of the injuries were life-threatening.

In hit-and-run news, a livery cab hit a man crossing Madison Avenue at East 62nd Street last night. The driver left the scene, but a witness says, "The guy knew he hit him because he swerved and flew out of there." It's unclear who had the light; the victim was taken to the hospital for his injuries.

It seems odd that a couple of big accidents in the past few days involved seizures (e.g. this, the crashed L train).

I was going to comment "what are the odds that he'd crash into the last phone booth in Manhattan?", but... that's not a phone booth. Don't get my hopes up.
