Going Below the Equator: Sampaist

2006_06_sampaist.jpgJust as the weather gets hotter here, the Gothamist family of city blogs welcomes one from one of the hottest places on earth: Sampaist, the Sao Paolo blog. We welcome our staff of paulistanos, led by editor Leandro M. Pinto. While we need to brush up on our Portuguese, we have learned that it's the start of winter down there (!!), subway service is being changed because of the World Cup schedule, and there's even a Critical Mass-esque event to promote bicycle and other non-auto means of transport. So, for a quick trip to South America, visit Sampaist.

And did you know that Sao Paolo's motto is Non ducor, duco - "I am not led, I lead."

I know a little Portuguese, but not enough to make sense of the site. The expansion of the -ist universe is a good thing.

Agreed, but sometimes the -ist at the end of some city names may sound a little weird. Parisist is a good example.

Tho Londonist sounds good.
What about Tokyo? Is there a Tokyoist in the works?

I still suprised there is no Ist from one of the most worldy and dynamic cities in the world..TOKYO, hell you should also do OSAKA as well!

I'm happy brazilians have their own -ist city blog. Great expansion. As brazlian, I'm happy
(beyond 4-1 over Japan).
