I'm with Anamalous. Driscoll's are gross, too dark, too big, and then nasty and white on the inside. I bought $20 worth of strawberries at the G-Market and they were possibly the best berries I have ever eaten.

It looks like strawberry season is just about done around here, actually. I was at the Brooklyn Heights greenmarket yesterday, and the strawberries were scarcer, larger, and looked more tired. One of the sellers there told me that they'd probably be gone by next week. I bought my last few quarts and did up another batch of jam, and now it's on to blueberry season instead.

All those Driscoll berries, not just strawberries, are bred for appearance, shipping durability, and shelf life, not flavor. That's why they're enormous and have no taste. Stick with your local growers and only eat highly perishable fruits in season.
