Venti Size Me!

2006_06_banandrink.JPGWe love investigative reports from the local news, and this one from Eyewtiness News was particularly disturbing. Did you know that the Center for Science in Public Interest is trying to get the word out about how caloriffic Starbucks drinks are? As in, that Venti Banana Coconut Frapuccino with whipped cream is over 700 calories! Now, the layman would say, "Hmm, it has bananas... it has coconut... it has sugar... it has whipped cream... it's probably not great for my diet," but is the layman going to resist that mix of caffeine, ice, and the aforementioned items? And we doubt that layman is going to the Starbucks Nutritional Information page to find out how many calories are in the various drinks. Now Gothamist totally understands why we're not losing our winter hibernation weight.

One Starbucks customer told Eyewitness News, "There's nothing worse than empty calories. If I'm going to get calories let me get it with some good grease. I want to eat it, I don't want to just drink it and not be full." Good grease indeed! But we've felt knocked out after drinking a frapuccino.

well, how about just coffe, straight black, no sugar, no cream...cheap and will not cause u gain weight..but i guess most of people add things in their drinks and food automatically without trying to find out how the original drink/food tastes before the additives. That also can depend on people's experience and attitude. And I think pretty much anything that tastes good will have a lot of calories

Gee, another chance to mention Shake Shack here. You guys are surely slipping.

Yes, but...who on earth is drinking a VENTI??? Tall is normal-size, grande is kinda big, and venti is the abominable snowman!! If you're ordering a drink that huge, I say you deserve what's coming to you!

Equally sobering is looking at the nutrition info for Jamba Juice drinks. I mean, who needs 32 ounces of liqui-yogurt?! Those also run around 700+ calories.

If you get the 16-oz Enlightened Smoothies or the just-fruitsmoothies, they're so much better for you. It makes a nice refreshing breakfast and clocks in around 200 calories.

It amazes me that anything can be sold in this country (any many others) "over the counter" and you don't have to tell people what's in it.

There could be ground cockroaches in the drinks and you wouldn't know it.

What do you mean "could be"?

That's pretty much a foregone conclusion.

i wish this subject would get even more attention. i see so many ignorant folks buying these bells-and-whistles "coffees" and i am certain they think that because it's in a glass, it can't be that bad. regular visits to restaurant websites for nutritional info can prohibit you from eating anywhere. good example: cosi's tuna cheddar sandwich is 956 calories and 55 grams of fat. and i've heard a woman order it with the comment to her friend, "yeah, i'm getting tuna cause i'm trying to be healthier."

Their are a lot of people who order VENTI, more then you think! Everytime I gor to The Bucks I see people (constantly) with Venti ice lattes and venti frappucinos.
