Six More Years of Kalikow!?!

Politics is definitely a weird thing when Peter Kalikow gets another term as MTA Chairman. Stupid State Senate, for reconfirming him! Kalikow wants to see some big projects finished (the 7 line extension, LIRR connection to Grand Central, South Ferry station's rebulid, the Fulton Street Transit Center, and the Second Avenue subway), and told the State Senate:

I work for the people of the State of New York. That's who I believe are my bosses - not the governor, not the mayor, not the Legislature ... as long as I thought I could serve them [the taxpayers] well, I would stay.
While he was appointed during Mario Cuomo's term (and by Cuomo), Kalikow has really seemed like a Pataki flunky, and therefore ineffective when it comes down to the small stuff, like accounting and customer satisfaction. Or even getting a good real estate deal for the West Side railyards. Attorney general and gubernatorial frontrunner Eliot Spitzer hates what Kalikow has done to the MTA, but won't be able to oust him. Which led the Straphangers to say, "An MTA chair must enjoy the full faith and confidence of the state's new chief executive," as in - be a pal and just step off. And you better believe the Transport Workers Union is up in arms.

Maybe he'll raise the fares again so he can get another $260,000 Ferrari.

ahh, mebbe he's gots anudder coupla bil under his toilet seat to "give away" in free metro cards. weeeeeeh!

Kalikow did not buy a Ferarri off MTA money--the MTA gives him a symbolic salary of $1 a year. I wish everyone would stop talking about the Ferarri. He bought that with his own money.

How exactly would raising the fair let Kalikow, who doesn't get paid by the MTA and was a multi-millionaire before heading it, afford another Ferrari? Look, I'm no Kalikow fan, but an ad hominem attack based on a fallacious innuendo isn't a valid criticism.

He should donate his Ferrari collection to the MTA. You miss the bus or subway, you can take a ride in one to your destination.

Irrespective of where the money came from, it just seems silly to have an doughy, old man driving around in a Ferrari. I mean, Thomas Magnum belonged in the Ferrari, but could you ever imagine Higgins driving it? Sorry, it just seems worse than "buying sports car during midlife crisis." I could see Kalikow pulling up next to Ross (from "Friends") and saying, "How cool are we?"

Anyhoo, back to the point. So when is arbitration against the TWU going to start? I can't wait for those SOBs to lose everything.

so when is arbitration against Kalilow going to start? $1 salary notwithstanding, everytime the train system comes to a complete halt when it rains just a bit too much and it takes me 4 hours to get home, he should be personally fined a million or so.

When did the train system come to a complete halt due to rain? Isn't that a teensy bit of exaggeration?

I think he should have to eat at Shake Shack as punishment.
