Last Night's Action: Yanks Survive/Mets Thrive

2006_04_syankeeslogo.jpg-Yankees 9 Ryan Howard 7: New York broke a three-game losing streak, but almost lost to Philadelphia thanks to the electric performance of Ryan Howard. Howard had two home runs and a triple, knocking in all seven of the Phillies’ runs. Howard ended the game 3 for 4 and only Mariano Rivera was able to get him out.

Johnny Damon had the go-ahead hit, a two-run triple and Rivera came in to pitch the last two innings for his 14th save. T.J. Beam picked up his first big league win by retiring one batter.

-Mets 9 Reds 2: New York jumped out to a three-run lead in the first inning and never looked back. Xavier Nady had two home runs and Steve Trachsel went six innings and also belted a homer.

-Staten Island 18 Brooklyn 0: In the first game of their season the S.I. Yankees demolished the Cyclones. Kyle Larsen had two home runs as part of the Yankees’ 19-hit attack.

-Miami 95 Dallas 92: Could there be a more fitting ending to a miserable NBA season for Knicks' fans than the sight of Alonzo Mourning with a championship trophy in his hands?
