-Reds 4, Mets 2: Maybe the Mets want to take another road trip. They're 1-3 on their current homestand after winning eight of nine on their road trip. Tonight, they looked unspectacular against Cincinnati's Bronson Arroyo. Of course, no one expected the Mets to continue the blistering pace of their road trip, and their fans should be pleased with Orlando Hernandez's decent performance against the talented Reds offense. He'll be a useful fifth starter if he can pitch like this, but manager Willie Randolph should be wary of overusing him. He has a history of tiring late in the season.
-Phillies 4, Yankees 2: Interleague play often produces games where lineups look baffled against a pitcher they haven't seen before. So looked the Yankees against the Phillies' Brett Myers. He struck out 11 Yankees, who have lost eight of 11. They'll likely rebound, but few teams could be as desparate for the still-injured Octavio Dotel to join the bullpen. As an aside, this may be one time Mets fans root for their neighbors against a division rival. With such a large lead and June showing on the calendar, the rooting will be quiet if it happens at all.

Cam Ward, their 22-year-old goalie, was named the Conn Smythe winner as the most valuable player in the playoffs. With the World Cup, the NBA Finals and two baseball teams, hockey's postseason was largely ignored. If more games were on stations other than the Outdoor Life Network (OLN), maybe more people would watch. NBC carried the last five games of the Stanley Cup Final (the NHL surprisingly dropped the "s" from "Finals"), but with hockey hidden on OLN the entire season, few could get into the deciding games.

The reason Hockey got exiled to OLN was because of the lockout last season. ESPN thought the NHL would go under, and didn't want to take a risk by signing a deal with them to broadcast games.
During last night's broadcast of game 7, NBC said that they are adding weekend games to their NHL coverage for next yeat. So, hopefully people will be able to see why hockey is so much better than soccer with their own eyes next fall.
Yes, the games were on NBC. I was a bit pissed off when I tuned in to see Chuck and Sue and the stupid hockey game was still going. The labor problems coupled with stupid management are killing hockey. I have stopped caring about hockey. Let's go Mets!
