Because as of 5:43:20 there's no line there. That's what we can see from Shake Shack's webcam which has finally gone live. The camera, which refreshes every 5 seconds, has been a long time coming since it was first announced way back in April when they first told Gothamist that they were buying one. No news on what the long delay was, but over the weekend, we were able to figure out how to set our own webcam up in no more than 10 minutes. Clearly the folks at Shake Shack are technology retarded. Now all they need is an SMS alert for those that are away from their computers.
So what better way to cool off in this heat than to get a concrete or a custard (today's flavor is ginger).
In other burger news, don't forget about this weekend's Gothamist-A Hamburger Today event at Water Taxi Beach.

why is Gothamist so Shake Shack crazy? All these posts about the same place is retarded.
A good story to follow the piece on Marty Markowitz and his hardened arteries.
AGAIN with the Shake Shack...
Though I wouldn't mind Gothamist's stalker like coverage if the Shake Shack sold Cambodian Breast Milk with their burgers.
retarded? what, is gothamist in junior high school?
I find it so offensive that Tien would use a word like retarded in a Gothamist post. Have we not progressed as a society? How can you be so insensitive to our lesser abled citizens? Think of the children who might read this, they could not possibly understand. You should be ashamed and I am considering seriously of never reading this site again. And I am also looking into seeing if a hate crime was committed here.
;)
I wish you guys would let go of your hard-on for the Shake Shack. They serve greasy burgers and heavy shakes. Get over it! I've had much better food at many places at chaper prices.
If you guys are shilling this hard for the Shake Shack, I hope you're at leat getting ground meat covered hand jobs or something.
I forgot, you five people are gothamist's entire audience. But since there was a post a few months ago about the possibility of a webcam at the shake shack, comments via contribute have been consistent asking for an update. so now that there is one, how can you fault them. they're just answering to the publics questions.
Oh right. Everyone with the exception of those posting comments was just clamoring for an update on the fucking Shake Shack's webcam. BIG NEWS!
In other important goings-on in the city, I just installed a new toothbrush. Film at 11.
As I was skimming another headline about the shake shack's line I said to myself, "ok, this is the day I write a comment and bitch about it—someone has to." Low and behold... I am not alone. I think there was a meeting at gothamist HQ... "ok, people are sick of all the stories on graffiti... now what? Shake Shake! Hear Hear. Harumph."
Otherwise, keep up the good work.
get over this place........ CHRIST!!
I find it amusing what things people obsess about. Keep at it! And keep pics of cute doggies and kitties coming! And go to coned.com and change your ConEd service to 100% wind power.
if you hate the contents of gothamist so much, WHY DO YOU KEEP READING IT?
is it all just a desperate cry for attention? or perhaps a need to pick a fight with someone online because you are too much of a wuss to be this snotty in public. because you know you would get the smackdown.
i am sure, if you tried, you could POSSIBLY find something else on the internet to read. yes, it may be a struggle. but i think you are up to it.
Time for the 8:30 Shake Shack webcam check.
From the looks of it there are 3 people outside the shake shack. No lines as of yet. Will check back in 15 minutes.
I am pretty sure Tien used the word 'retarded' correctly. It means to be slowed or delayed and he was, in fact, referring to the long delay on their webcam. Thus, they really were technology retarded.
Now, if he said some of your comments are retarded...THAT would be wrong.
I'm guessing the webcam delay stemmed from getting a permit for putting it in a public place, figuring out how to do a live feed from outdoors, etc.
Since it's obvious Gothamist is trading copy for free burgers and shakes, I imagine the Gothamist staff are all fat as cattle with zits a-poppin'. Maybe greazy fingers are to blame for all the typos?
Nah, I blame mental retardation.
"Service Unavailable." AAAAAAAAARGH!!!
How do you install a toothbrush? Where do you install a toothbrush?
Actually, my favorite 'burger' at the Shack isn't a burger at all- it's the 'Shroom Burger. It's not greasy, and it satisfies my meat cravings without making me feel guilty.:)
That said, I don't read Gothamist every day, but I do live not too far from Shake Shack. While I prefer the ambience of Eisenberg's (I love their grilled cheese sandwiches and their egg creams) I like sitting outside on a summer day enjoying a bite to eat and pretending that I'm in Paris. For me at least, Shake Shack is a local joint, not the Holy Grail of hamburgers.
What I would like to see though, are some reviews of truly tasty vegetarian/healthy alternatives to the standard burger and hot dog. While I'm not a vegetarian, I'm trying to eat more healthily than in the past, and foods like tofu pups leave me cold. I'd rather live on bran flakes than eat at that vegetarian place on Union Square East.
How do you install a toothbrush? Where do you install a toothbrush?
I have a suggestion for a location. But you probably wouldn't appreciate it very much.
I agree, techmaven, that the best burger IS in fact the 'Shroom Burger! Good veggie joints- Counter in the E Village at 1st Ave at 7th St.
BUT, mimio's right- the Shake Shack does run on Wind Power, which is awesome- check out www.newwindenergy.com/nyc to switch yourself.
