Unfortunately, it seems that the victims were primarily tourists. Although NYC is safer, it's still not that safe. You still have to be alert and very aware of your surroundings. A few Saturdays ago, I saw some buses from Quebec province discharge their passengers by Battery Park so that these people could wander around the area. This was slightly before 6AM in the morning, and the area was virtually deserted.

I was in London for 9 days one week ago, and in that period of time 2 kids were stabbed to death arbitrarilly in the street. One was just waiting on a corner for his ride home at night. They have something over there called "Happy-Slapping" which is apparently just the open practice of completely random violent assault [most often w knives]. It's definitely the driving force behind the Knife Amnesty mentioned above. This is terrible, but its still one of the safest periods in NYC history. No debate there.

Anyone happen to be on the Brooklyn bound L train 2 saturdays ago around 5pm? between 8 ave & 6th there was some serious scuffle and a whole mob of people rushing out of one car screaming knife. I was on the train but couldnt see anything and when I told the booth operator at 6th ave he was none too concerned.. only asked "Were they black or white?" I dont know--mulatto??

Yeah, this has nothing to do with race. It's completely random. Except for the fact that it's a black guy targeting white people. I thought whites were a minority in NYC, so what's the probability that he randomly picked three different groups of white people to stab? I know it's possible, but it sounds to mw like he should be charged with race-hate charges as well as generally stabbing-people charges.

Yeah, this has nothing to do with race except if you look at all the crimes reported on Gothamist, 91% of them are black! GOTHAMIST are the real racists. ALways, only reporting black crimes. I saw this chinese food delivery guy stealing some ketchup packets from mcdonald's but Gothamist doesn't report that, only black people raping, killing and robbing. That's just wrong.
