Wow. The Transport Workers Union's headquarters on West End Avenue was sold for $60 million. Back in April, it was reported that the headquarters were worth $39 million, but that there was a $60 million offer. And clearly, the TWU decided the cash out. One source tells the Post, "This amounts to yet another miscalculation on the part of the MTA and Governor Pataki. They thought they could bust this union, but we are now stronger than ever and we're ready to fight." It'll be interesting to see how the money is used, after paying the fine and getting new headquarters.
TWU vice president, John Mooney, who has tangled with TWU president Roger Toussaint, questions who the buyer is, and there's wider confusion about what will happens, as Toussaint only recently announced that union staff would have to get a 10% pay cut.

Interesting! Now that the TWU is rich, will it lower union dues? Will they pay all the MTA workers back for wages lost during that ill-advised strike?
Also, it\'s one thing to sell your headquarters for 60 million, but where are they going to find headquarters for less than 60 million?
60 million....
too to.
Why are they always \"fighting\"? If the union (and the MTA) were a little more cooperative the union would save millions on dues and make their leaders irrelevent. Oh wait. . .
It\'s worth noting that UAW workers and their non-union counterparts at Honda and Toyota plants in the USA make about the same money. Which one is always whining.
