Matthew Connolly was carrying his little Shih Tzu Rosalita near Frank Principe Park when a 100 pound Rottweiler charged them and started to chomp on Rosalita. And then the Rottweiler turned to Connolly's arm when he tried to push the big dog away. Two auto mechanics nearby got the Rottweiler away, by using carburator spray and sticks. Witnesses described the 2 year old Rottweiler as "ripping out" Connolly's arm and were upset the dog wasn't on a leash. The Daily News reports that Rottweiler's owner, Philip Simon, was given a summons for walking his dog without a leash - and that the dog apparently gets along with Simon's 10 month old son!
The Department of Health is monitoring the situation (we think the policy is if a dog bites or attacks humans twice, it is put down). And it turns out that Rosalita's original owner was Connolly's son, who died last year; Connolly said, "This is the only thing I have left of my son." Rosalita is having surgery for a punctured neck and dislocated vertebra, while Connolly will need skin grafts.

There are plenty of dogs that are fine with people (babies are little people) but hate other dogs. Just because it\'s good with a baby does not mean it\'s not potentially vicious to other dogs.
That being said, I would hate if this dog had to be put down because the dipshit owner didn\'t feel the need to leash it.
Put the dog down if they are not going to properly rehabilitate it. It obviously has major behavioral issues.
I have a small Yorkie who means everything to me. If another dog came charging at my dog, it dies. I will kill it. I won\'t stop to ask questions or look for the owner. Sorry.
If the attacking dog does manage to live, he gets put to sleep and the owner is charged with whatever the police can hand down.
Then we meet up in court where I\'ll sue the owners a*s off.
It\'s as simple as that.
badum ching!
Put the dog down if they are not going to properly rehabilitate it. It obviously has major behavioral issues.
I guess it\'s a little sad that the dog would have to be put down, but why should citizens out minding their business have to bear the risk of another owner being remiss?
Yeah, kill kill kill! Look how much problems are solved by death of Zarqawi! I say off with killings of dogs, hedgehogs, paupers, atheists as well! Today\'s headline: we love to kill and destroy stuff, says human nature.
Shit Tzu\'s DESERVE to die. Plus I wish the rott ripped out that loser\'s hairdo.
Um, Larry, it is a picture from a movie- \"Best in Show\"
\"I have a small Yorkie who means everything to me. If another dog came charging at my dog, it dies. I will kill it. I won\'t stop to ask questions or look for the owner.\"
Jeez, if only somebody had told the iron-worker to take that strategy, he wouldn\'t have let himself get all bit up!
diogenes,
Suck my big toe.
Da hell is the matter with the comments?
put down the dog\'s owner.
Great movie.
you whities and your stupid dog.
I\'ve heard on the news that the victims flesh was falling off as he fought the mutt.
but you still love them.
listen, there\'s a reason why they are devil\'s spawn.
I have found that most small dogs are agressive, especially to large dogs. So the small little dust mop, I mean \"dog\" could be truly at fault. If you are stupid enough to have a Shih Tzu, expect to have some bad karma come your way.
Rotties are very nice dogs, but there tend to be some bad owners who tend to abuse the dogs instead of treating them properly.
Such \"humans\" need to be put down.
In my experience Rottweilers are sweet, loving, playful, loyal and have a nasty habit of attacking unattended sandwiches.
Pit Bulls on the other hand should be all humanely euthanized as they are all bred for fighting and killing.
One always hears how loving and wonderful someone's "Rottie" always was before tearing another animal or child to ribbons! We have two wonderful "Rotties" that are run without leashes through our neighborhood. The owner has refused upon request to leash them. It's her right apparently. I have children and a Shih Tzu (and bear no resemblence to the above picture). I think it's totally rude! It's like running around with a loaded gun and expecting people to not be afraid because it "probably won't go off".
Here's another point of view, on my blog:

I have a shih tzu. All he does is eat and sleep. He's a bit stubborn too and likes to get his way. He has a cataract in one eye and i need money to have surgery. Please send me money.
