Playmate and Commish's Cousin Accuse NYPD of Bad Behavior
It's two follow-ups in one: Two people have filed separate lawsuits against the NYPD for excessive police force. Playboy's Miss November 1992, Stephanie Adams, complained about the police treating her roughly last month, after an altercation with a cabby. Adams's cabby refused to drop her off outside her Chelsea apartment building, leading them to argue and each call the police. But the cabby claimed Adams had a gun (which she didn't), so when police arrived on the scene, they shoved her to the ground, with their guns aimed at her. Adams filed a notice of claim (the precursor to a lawsuit) against the NYPD, city, and the cops who mistreated her and is looking for $5 million in damages. She also added that the police leered at her while checking to see if she was packing heat. The police and cabby deny Adams's account, with cabby Eric Darko telling the Post he felt like his life was in danger, saying Adams threatened to shoot him. The Taxi and Limousine Commission is also looking into the matter.
And then there's the case of Arthur Heller, the son of Police Commissioner Ray Kelly's cousin. Last January, Heller was allegedly tackled and punched by plainclothes cops who saw him swiping his Metrocard repeatedly at the Eighth Avenue and 43rd Street subway station. Oh, and the cops went after him - and his Metrocard - without identifying themselves as police offiicers and after Heller mentioned his relation to Commissioner Kelly. Heller is suing the NYPD, city and the cops for $120 million, noting that he was never charged with a crime and was made to wait for six hours while handcuffed. If that's how the police are going to go after Ray Kelly's relatives or how the police are trying to track down on people who can't use Metrocards well, we're screwed - we needed about 15 swipes and then a service gate-okay from a token booth agent to get through this morning.
If you have a complaint about police conduct, you can contact the NYC Civilian Complaint Board.

If I can remember back to what I learned in math class... he's asking for almost 130,000 years worth of 30-day fun pass use. Not even Charlie could last in the MTA that long.
If normal human nature is any guide, invoking the name of "[your boss] is gonna make you pay! Don't you know who I am?" is basically a good way to guarantee a beatdown. By anyone. In any profession. Cops especially.
Had a similar problem at that very station with a plain clothed officer. After the lady at the booth told me to go through the gate, this man comes up and violently grabs my arm. I barreled passed him because what the hell, why is this man grabbing me?! Then he yelled at me for pushing a police officer and for not paying my fare (BTW- I have a monthly card). Don't police officers have better things to do than grab young women and wrongly accuse them of evading fares?
What a silly question. No, of course cops have nothing better to do than grabbing at young women. I mean if you were a young (or old) male cop what better way than to while away your time than harassing young women at subway stations. All he has to say if it ever gets to be a big issue is he didn't see token booth clerk motion you through the gate. He gets his jolly/God complex satisfied and none the worse for wear. Ah gotta love civil servants.
F**** the police!
$120 million? Now he actually deserves a serious beating. If I were Ray Kelly I'd be fantasizing about doing a Fat Nick on him.
As a cop who worked at that station, before Disney (If anyone can remember), I am sure there is a lot more to that story. Whats the big deal about him being treated the same way as any other guy. If he was given special treatment, it would have made the front page, not this blog. As a matter of fact, six hours was a favor Im sure. He wasn’t arraigned the next morning like everyone else. Your welcome.
As for the model, why the media blitz? Things like that happen countless times a day. A cop trying to be safe and make sure he doesn’t get shot isn’t big news. Its how we make sure we go home to OUR family. A pretty model can carry a gun just as easily as the local drug dealer. I would call the press bias. When they start showing up for and writing about every man and/or woman who is thrown to the ground on every GUN run, then Ill give their words the attention and respect they deserve.
