Almost ten years after the crime, the Manhattan DA's office is prosecuting Leroy Johnson for raping two women at knifepoint in a Waverly Place apartment. The Post had details on Johnson's life, which are depressing (his father died of a drug overdose when he was 3, his mother developed schizophrenia), but it's also upsetting that his life turned so violent at a young age (at 13, he raped a woman, and two years later, he and another person raped actress Kelly McGillis and her roommate on the Upper West Side in 1982). The NYPD arrested Johnson last year after his DNA matched the 1996 rape, and the DA's office just made it within the 10 year statute of limitations to try him. However, the DA can only mention crimes committed in the past 10 years, not the earlier crimes. Johnson's defense will be to contest the validity of the DNA evidence

Oh...because his life is depressing, we should understand his actions. Are you kidding me? Why even bring that up? What's depressing is that he's a serial rapist that might get away with his crimes!
What's depressing is the number of grammatical mishaps in Jen's posts:
"Johnson's life is depressing, with his father dying of a drug overdose and his mother developing schizophrenia, and turned violent at a young age..."
I revised that part a little. I do not think that Johnson's life excuses his actions in any way at all, but his young life is notable, especially since he turned to crime so young.
He never should have been sent to juvy. That McGillis double rape should have been enough for prosecution as an adult.
How can you not see a person like this guy and wonder how he got that way? How have the ditto-heads been able to set up this strawman argument where having interest in finding out how people turn into monsters equals feeling that they deserve hugs and not punishment? I've never met a person who thought rapists are good guys who just need more chances instead of repurcussions.
This piece of shit should be hanged in city hall with daryl littlejohn and peter braunstein.
You evil republicans! Try to understand the poor rapist. He had depressing childhood so it is more than fair that he was able to get sex from people with white privileges. You can only claim white people.
