Toby, I was just about to mention that. I saw the same plane buzzing around the harbor. It looked like it was just taking off and at a high angle moving toward brooklyn.

Did anyone else notice the seaplane flying around the East Rover rather low yesterday?

Sounds like you already got bent. Note that TJ mentioned the inefficient burning of fuel. Seaplanes are notoriously inefficient, because if you notice, those huge pontoons are not aerodynamic.

Now if you want a more efficient method of transportation that takes off and lands in the water, wing in ground effect craft are far more like it.

Gee, a pilot's association representative who thinks something that could give his members more work is a good idea. Who'da thunk it? Of course, he doesn't really address Bloomie's idea, which includes large, multiengine seaplanes, not the puddle-jumpers the association members fly. I doubt most of them are even rated on multiengine planes.

Yeah let's get rid of industry! It's far better to have only white collar office jobs and poor people to clean the offices at midnight when they aren't seen! And do my drycleaning. And then we'll blame the country's worst income inequality on Washington!

no environmental issues to speak of, except of course the vastly inefficient burning of fuel.

Everything old is new again! This is how aviation started in New York City. We still have the Marine Air Terminal at LaGuardia from this era. One other remnant is the old bus depot pier on West Street at 14th Street. Before New York had a Department of Transportation, we had the Department of Marine & Aviation that operated out of the pier. Maybe they could expand on the existing heliports around town for this type of project.

"You could land out away from everybody then taxi in. There's no environmental issues to speak of,"

When New York is finally getting rid of its industrial shoreline, why would Bloomberg want to turn the city into a seaport again?
Oh and by the way, transferring the environmental problem to another location doesn’t solve it, but I guess what we can't see we don't worry about right?
