Gothamist did a double take last night when we noticed the Staten Island Ferry on the Hudson River. Our hypothesis was that it might be a new ferry, on it way from the Manitowoc Marine Group in Wisconsin, but maybe it was a special treat for uptown New Yorkers to see the big orange vessel.

weird.
Wouldn't be the first time.
Thanks, Hashashin. I muttered to myself, 'Didn't I read this already?'
Everything sticks like a broken record...
Nope! It was the closing party for the Staten Island Film Festival. I was on this ride and I have some amazing pictures. We at prodigalborough.com also spoke briefly with the S.I. borough president. We'll be posting our pictures and more info tonight.
Yep, as CvB says, it was the film festival, and she and I were there on the aft deck at that exact moment commenting on those weirdly ugly but fantastically located NJ riverfront condos in the background. It was surreally fun eating cheese, crabmeat, and sushi, and drinking vodka cocktails on the same ferry I use for my daily slog to work. The Advance picked up the story here (obviously because they were there gorging themselves on the free food). As soon as blogger.com comes back from the netherworld, we'll post about it.

After reading the Advance article I see there was a 20 minute fireworks display. That may explain the few fireworks I saw around lower Manhattan that I saw from MacNeil Park in College Point, Queens about 9:15 last night.
Anyone know the name of the waterfront condo complex in the photo?
Yes, there were fireworks at about 9PM. They cost $12,000 according to the Borough President. More info and pictures from the ferry ride can be found at http://prodigalborough.com
