Cane Mutiny

2006_06_canestory.jpgWe do live in an overly litigious country, so we can understand wanting to make sure if lawsuits have claims. But this story of a cleaning company checking up on an a man's claims is wacky. Marriott Financial Center chef Henry Hardy had sued the Excellent Cleaning Corp. after he slipped and hurt his knee, saying the cleaning crew should have mopped up a mess on the floor. Hardy now uses a cane, so Excellent Cleaning hired a detective to follow him around, as Hardy's suit is for $100,000. But apparently the private eye hit Hardy with his car when Hardy noticed him following him around, causing Hardy to need another surgery for his knee and upping his lawsuit to $1 million. Excellent Cleaning's investigators says the invident never happened, but now a court will hear both incidents together.
