Seems the graffiti discussion we spotted in Williamsburg in March was just the tip of the iceberg. We spotted this door on West Street in Greenpoint yesterday, and it looks like it picks up where the last piece left off. Don't these people know about Williamsboard?

While it is clear that the creator of "FUK white FOlKS" began to correctly air a "C", he quickly realized that he wouldn't have enough space thanks to his placement of the "F" too close to the large door handle and so opted for the phonetically accurate "FUK" instead. As well, his use of lowercase letters in "whites" interspersed with capitals elsewhere shows both contempt for the group and a subtextual denial of their existence as a discrete ethinic category. That is, instead of understanding them as, say, African Americans, they are listed using the same grammatical rules as animals (i.e. "rats", "horses" etc.). Is this the commentary of a non-White underlining the theft of his culture by forces of colonialism? Sheer racism? The writing of a white person who, looking from the inside out, acknowledges that his own ethnic identity is simply built on the backs of others. I don't know, but I do want to FUK me some whites!

If you look at the graffiti you will notice that the banter is going back and forth between blacks and whites.

Harlem and The Bronx were not half as large as they are now. Harlem was very small when Jews lived there.
Harlem was built up for the white people "back in the day."
The reason blacks moved into Harlem was because other whites would not live there with the Jews. The real estate market was at risk of collapse. The property (white) owners were nervous and turned to blacks. Whites were too busy buying cars to drive to the country side where they chose to live. The realtors encouraged blacks to move from lower Manhattan to Harlem and charged blacks prices well above what white people were paying for rent.
After the blacks moved into Harlem. More white people moved out but..., so did many of the very rich blacks.
You can thank the Mafia for keeping Harlem black for as long as they did. It was to their advantage to keep white people out of Harlem, there was too much money to be made during prohibition, alcohol and the drug boom.

My guess is that the surprising amount of vitriol seen in this thread and every other one that has a racial tinge results not from ignorance, but from encounters with a certain subset of black folk that you can't help but to get pissed off at. You know the ones...

Like white folks have rednecks/crackers/white trash, etc., black folks have a subset of their population that have serious CULTURAL issues. They don't give a crap about anything or anyone! Of course absolutely nothing is going to get done about this because the rest of us live in fear of being labeled as racists by 33s (or get attacked like Bill Cosby).
Given that there is no way to actually address this problem (as if anyone opens up their mouths, particularly if white, theyll be dismissed as racists), my modest proposal is that we come up with a term that isn't loaded like the n-word to call these people. I propose black trash. Any other ideas?

Yeah, for another reason, too. Central park had it's designated boundaries way before Harlem ever got built. The hotel Dakota is named so because it was one of the northernmost buildings on manhattan, and the builders felt that people would assume they were traveling all the way to dakota. Now that's only at 72nd street, so you obviously don't know what you're talking about
Listen... white people left the bronx, bk, and queens because businesses moved out, robert moses built expressways (Red Hook, anyone), and a little economic recession in the 1960s that none of you know about since you're all transplants to NYC anyway.

Folks, getting rid of this grafitti, and all others, is very simple.
Just spraypaint a big red swastika over it. The city (including the police) will come knocking all over town when they find it. My apartment building would be covered with grafitti all the time. Since I started spray painting swastikas over every piece of grafitti on it, my landlord cleans it up before the police can knock on his door.
