Map of the Day: Kottke Moves Manhattan

2006_6_kottkemap1.jpg

The internets are abuzz with Jason Kottke's "Manhattan Elsewhere" project. In it, he uses Google Maps and Google Earth to place Manhattan on the same map as other cities (Chicago, SF, Boston, Minneapolis, and the teeming metropolis that is Barron, Wisconsin!) The project is a loving remake of Bill Rankin's Errant Island of Manhattan project-- check that one out for LA and Philadelphia comparisons. Six years passed between the two projects, and it is fun to see how far internet maps have come since Mapquest-- especially in the 3D rendering department.

You know, here in Denver they always say that DIA (our airport) is twice the size/area of Manhattan. Anyone out there with 1337 map skillz want to try it and see?

You left out a link to the actual site...

What a shock to come across the term "Barron, Wisconsin" in a little late-night, homesick blog searching and be directed to your site! I am a proud Barron native/escapee now living in Australia. I'd love to follow a link to the actual site and also know what inspired you to use our little town in your post . . . . Do you have a personal connection to our lovely turkey-scented town in the alternatively frosty/humid northwoods, or did you throw a dart at a map?

p.s. Whereabouts is Manhattan? Is that in North Dakota? :)

I haven't been up to anything recently, but so it goes. Such is life. What can I say? Pretty much not much exciting going on to speak of. I haven't gotten much done lately, but I don't care.
