Lightning Strike

2006_06_lightning.jpg

Whoa, tonight's wild thunderstorm has hit Staten Island in a serious way: There's an island-wide power outage right now, not to mention "starting fires, flooding streets, causing car crashes downing tree branches," according to SILive. Also, we're hearing that a police officer was struck by lightning. Be careful out there!

There will be thunderstorms tomorrow as well.

Here's another good shot of a strike-- anyone else have one? And while most of you suckers were running for cover, Adam Kuban used the thunderstorm as an opportunity to avoid the line at Shake Shack! Clever.

What time was there an island-wide power outage? I live in St George and we never lost power. Someone is seriously exaggerating.

We lost power between 8:30pm-10:15pm in Travis, the whole neighborhood was out.

Having said that, NY1 is quoting ConEd as saying that a total of 6,000 customers lost power on SI - so claims of an island-wide outage do seem to be a major exaggeration.

The Shake Shack is so overrated and gay - I wish people would get over it.

Yup. Dongan hills here. No power outage. As a matter of fact, between 8:30-10:15, we were watching the 2006 Scripp Spelling Bee on channel 7. Geektacular!

I doubt the lightning caused car crashes. 2 NYC drivers on a 100 sq. mile salt flat would hit each other.
